Naked Gods CD release party
Black Cat Burrito
Raw, electric and drawing big local crowds, roots country quintet The Naked Gods will release their debut CD at the band’s next outing at Black Cat Burrito on Wednesday, March 21. With a lo-fi approach to swaggering, rock-influenced country, Naked Gods shows have the ability to turn into the perfect drunken Americana sing-along.
4/6 The Hipbones
Flipside
Psychedelic funk trio The Hipbones will make a stop in
Boone on Friday, April 6, at Flipside. Based in San Francisco,
the band combines sax-drenched, jazzy funk grooves and a healthy dose of
loops for a dense, layered sound that will make your head spin and bob simultaneously.
4/7 Johnny Sketch & The Dirty Notes
Boone Saloon
Alright,
here comes the pep talk portion of the column. New Orleans’ Johnny
Sketch & The Dirty Notes are a non-stop funk bomb of a band
that has rocked small Boone crowds on a few different occasions. Yes, they
are playing Boone Saloon on Easter weekend, which is tough,
but if you’re in town, DO NOT MISS THIS BAND! Think a much more skilled
Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band with a hint of Squirrel Nut Zippers and
Zappa and that might give you an idea about these cats.
4/20
The Flat Tires/David Childers & The Modern Don Juans
Black Cat Burrito
“Well
mama used to beat my ass, and when I cried, she beat it twice…”
sings the husky voiced David Childers to lead off his latest album, Burning
In Hell. I count myself among those who were pissed about missing the last
David Childers & The Modern Don Juans show at Black
Cat Burrito. I was even angrier when I heard that the Charlotte-based
alt. country band absolutely ripped through a set of roadhouse country and
stomping Americana. The band will be back at Black Cat on 4/20.
